Connecting the Dots: Big Brothers and Big Sisters

Denise Barkhurst, President and CEO of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Superintendent Pedro Martinez of San Antonio Independent School District discuss their popular workplace mentoring program and its upcoming fundraiser, “Connecting the Dots.”

SAN ANTONIO- Denise Barkhurst, President and CEO of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, along with Pedro Martinez, superintendent of San Antonio Independent School District, joined us to discuss “Connecting the Dots.”

This is a big fundraising luncheon for a popular workplace mentoring program for students. Both guests discussed the importance of one-on-one mentoring, specifically for boys, and the importance of men being their mentors. Barkhurst also talked about her own experience as a Big Sister, both for girls and boys.

They each explained how there is a long list of local businesses who are eager to take part in this program, opening their doors for these monthly interactions and supporting students through their post-high school plans.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters and SAISD will be hosting their “Connect the Dots” Workplace Mentoring Luncheon on May 24th. If you are interested in information regarding sponsorship or tickets for the event, please contact Ann Marie at acamosy@bigmentor.org or call (210)-225-6322 ext 138.
