Border Patrol agents arrested a Kuwaiti man Saturday near La Joya.

Agents arrested Munir Othman Issa — a Kuwaiti citizen also known as Munir Dawud — near La Joya on Saturday.

"Record checks revealed the Defendant was formally Deported/Excluded from the United States on May 02, 2006 through Chicago, Illinois," according to the federal criminal complaint against him.

In July 2005, he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and sentenced to five years probation, according to the criminal complaint.

Issa is now charged with illegal re-entry.

Court records don't list an attorney for Issa, who remains in federal custody.
