A Bexar County Sheriff's deputy was hospitalized after he was attacked and stabbed by a man at a home on the city's Far North Side.

According to deputies at the scene, the officer responded to a family disturbance call on Pearl Harvest, near Evans Road and TPC Parkway, at about 12 a.m. on Thursday.

When he walked into the home, a 30-year-old man jumped the deputy from behind and stabbed him several times in the neck. The deputy was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The suspect, later identified as Gary Hamre, was arrested and will be charged with attempted capital murder on a peace officer.

The deputy has been identified as Deputy Xerxes Tuttle. The sheriff's office said Thursday afternoon that Deputy Tuttle remains in the hospital in stable condition. Tuttle has been with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office since April of 2002 and is currently assigned to East Patrol.

A report from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office stated the suspect was also involved in a struggle with his father.
