SAN ANTONIO - A driver was killed when he slammed his car into a fence, becoming impaled on the fence himself, according to Bexar County deputies.

The accident happened around 1:35 a.m. Friday on the 2400 block North Foster Road, near Wagner High School.

Deputies believe the man was speeding when he lost control, hit a curb, and knocked down about 50 feet of a fence along Foster Road. When deputies arrived, they found the man impaled on the fence; they do not believe he was wearing a seat belt.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center. He is described as a man in his 40s or 50s but has not yet been positively identified.

The accident scene was cleared within a few hours and the roadway was reopened by 5:30 a.m.
