Driver of big rig overturns on access road, wife and child riding in cab not hurt

SAN ANTONIO - The driver of a big rig, his wife and a 2-year-old child were not hurt after the 18-wheeler they were in overturned on the eastbound access road of Highway 90 on the city's West Side.

Officers said the driver of the rig hit a small barrier on the access road, turned over onto its side and slid about 30 feet before hitting a utility pole near Ray Ellison Boulevard at about 1 a.m. on Monday morning. No other vehicles were involved.

The 18-wheeler was carrying frozen chicken that will be condemned and CPS Energy crews were on-site inspecting the damaged utility pole.

The couple and child were not hurt.

As of 5:30 a.m., the eastbound access road remained closed. The main lanes of Highway 90 were not affected.
