FEMA Hurricane Harvey assistance deadline approaching
SAN ANTONIO – Many people across Texas and along the coast are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey.
The deadline to file with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is October 24th.
According to FEMA, there are more than 800,000 people in Texas who have registered for assistance and that the number continues to grow by the hundreds every day.
There are close to 3,000 home inspectors on the ground. However, because of how many people need help, inspections could take up to a month or longer to complete.
“We are asking people to be patient we know the urgency. And we know how badly they want to get back and rebuilding their lives but this is a huge recovery effort because we dealt with an unprecedented storm,” said Pamela Saulsby, a FEMA Spokesperson for Texas.
FEMA offers different kinds of disaster relief. The primary categories are rental assistance home repair and replacement of personal property.
The October 24th deadline is also for FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Program.
