Fort Hood officials say missing motorist is soldier at post

Fort Hood officials who have released few details about a motorist swept away amid flash flooding last month now say the missing person is a soldier at the Army post.

Officials said in a statement Thursday that the search continues for the person, who was reported missing April 11 after the soldier's vehicle was caught in rising floodwaters.

The National Weather Service reported at the time that up to 8 inches of rain had fallen in the area of the sprawling Central Texas post.

Commanders say they will not release the name of the soldier while the person remains missing.

Personnel have been searching debris piles, dams and waterways, including ones leading to Belton Lake.

A diver who was participating in the search died April 16 after she was found in distress.
