H-E-B giving away eco-friendly bags for Earth Day
SAN ANTONIO- Starting Sunday, April 22nd, H-E-B is celebrating Earth Day by giving away 185,000 reusable, colorful bags to customers across Texas. Customers can visit any H-E-B in Texas and receive a complimentary Earth Day bag that has been exclusively designed by a Texas artist and made from at least 80 percent recycled plastic bottles.
The bags represent its commitment to sustainable business practices and environmental stewardship. Starting at 1 pm, April 22nd, you may pick up an eco-friendly bag until supplies last. The first bag is free and shoppers then can choose to purchase additional Earth Day bags for $1.50 a piece.
Texas artist Becca Borrelli designed the Earth Day bag this year for the second time in a row. A former elementary school teacher who illustrated adult coloring books, Borrelli envisioned the bag design to resemble pages from a coloring book. It also features the state of Texas surrounded by environmentally friendly activities.
"H-E-B works year-round to educate our customers about ways to care for our environment- from recycling at home and donating to environmental nonprofits to grocery shopping with reusable bags," H-E-B Public Affairs Manager, Julie Bedingfield said. "We're pleased to share these colorful bags with our customers, and we hope it inspires them to make positive decisions that benefit our environment, making everyday Earth Day."
H-E-B launched a donation campaign last month to benefit EarthShare of Texas, which is a nonprofit that supports more than 70 respected environmental and conservation groups. Now through May 1st, customers can choose to donate $1 dollar, $3 dollars or $5 dollars at checkout. Shoppers have raised $800, 000 dollars through the donation campaign over the past decade.
The Alamo City H-E-B will celebrate Earth Day at Woodlawn Lake Park on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am to 3 pm. At the event, H-E-B will give out free books, Cafe Ole coffee and potted herbs.
