UPDATE at 4:00 p.m.

Icy conditions on the highways led to a massive pileup on a Loop 410 exit ramp early Friday morning.

No one was seriously injured.

"We deal with car wrecks everyday on 410, but not typically 20 at a time so,” said Castle Hills Fire Chief Darrell Dover.

It was like bumper cars.

"Once I got onto the bridge I saw a young man waving his arms and I was like oh my God, so I took my foot off the pedal and it was over from there, the car just had a mind of its own and took off,” said driver Jose Silerio.

Drivers hit black ice. Car by car, they started to pile up. 20 in total crashed.

"I was probably the 5th car in the sequence, then I got hit and I got pushed in front of two other cars that I ran into, then those cars got pushed into me and it was just bouncing around,” said driver Caleb Mitchell.

The Castle Hills Fire department responded with EMS. They say they too were sliding around as they worked to rescue the drivers. Thankfully no one was seriously injured, but one woman did have to be removed from her car. She was taken to University Hospital in stable condition.

"Her foot was kind of trapped in a crazy way, and it made for a challenge to get her out, her vehicle was wedged in between one of four vehicles that was wedged against the exit ramp,” said Chief Dover.

It was about 7 a.m. when about 20 cars crashed on the exit ramp of Loop 410 westbound at West Avenue. Several of the cars turned completely around and crashed into other cars along the one-lane ramp. Crews had climb over the mangled cars to free some of the trapped drivers.

The drivers involved said it was unavoidable once they got on the bridge. They slid and heard "pop, pop, pop" as cars hit each other. The 20-vehicle pile-up was apparently caused by black ice. A majority of the cars were 'totaled' in the crash.

Crews had to free one woman from her car. Officials said she was okay but was taken to University Hospital to get checked out.

The ramp was reopened just before noon Friday.
