Local fire lieutenant suspended without pay following DWI arrest
SAN ANTONIO —
A San Antonio Fire Department lieutenant has been suspended without pay following his DWI arrest in June.
On June 11 at about 2:15 a.m., Abel Gomez was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Gomez allegedly admitted to being drunk and to having four to five 16 ounce beers before driving. According to the suspension notice, Gomez failed the field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of .15 at the time of his arrest. The notice states he did not notify the fire department of the incident until after the news of his arrest aired on television.
According to the notice, he will be indefinitely suspended without pay as he violated the fire department's rules.
