SAN ANTONIO - Police said thieves in two vehicles coordinated a massive theft at a Northwest Side Walmart store early Thursday morning, taking dozens of car batteries before leading police on a 30 minute chase across town.

The crime occurred at Walmart store at Loop 1604 & Culebra Road at about 5 a.m. on Thursday.

When officers were called, they followed a green Honda car and a beige Chevy pickup truck through the Northwest Side of the city. At one point, speeds during the chase hit 100 miles per hour.

Police lost the Honda, but managed to track down the truck to Nuevo Leon and Montezuma streets, where the suspects abandoned the truck and ran.

A K-9 unit was brought in to help with the foot search, but the suspects were not found. Some of the car batteries were recovered. It was not known whether the truck involved was stolen.

No one was hurt during the chase.
