San Antonio Housing Authority begins construction of new homes on West Side
The San Antonio Housing Authority began construction on dozens of new homes in an area on the West Side where there's a history of problems with public housing.
The homes are being built now in the Blueridge Subdivision near Our Lady of the Lake University.
The subdivision is the Mirasol Homes area, which had been plagued by lawsuits over shoddy construction in the past. Now, it's part of the city's west side reinvestment initiative for new -- affordable single-family homes.
"We have a home ownership readiness class,” said Tim Alcott, who is with San Antonio Housing Authority. “People are going through that right now to pre-qualify for these homes. We're providing down payment assistance for these homes, and they'll start in the $120Ks and go up to the mid-$150Ks."
The 40 new three to five bedroom homes are the first of four subdivisions in SAHA's West Side re-investment initiative.
