Suspect arrested in fatal ambush shooting of 40-year-old man
SAN ANTONIO —
Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man more than two weeks ago.
The shooting happened in the 1600 block of Mardell Street on Jan. 31 at about 11:45 p.m.
Witnesses said 40-year-old Anthony Garcia went to the store to get beer. As he came back, he was seen being chased by a truck and yelling for those in the area to get down. It's not completely clear why Garcia was being chased.
Further investigation led officers to interview 17-year-old David Ortiz. Ortiz said he was at the scene because he was visiting his girlfriend who is a family friend of Garcia's.
Surveillance video showed Ortiz with a gun, standing over Garcia's body, according to an affidavit. Ortiz has been charged with murder, a first-degree felony.
