Suspect captured after chase near Joint Base-Lackland
SAN ANTONIO - A suspect is in custody following a chase that started in Atascosa County and ended on the Southwest Side of San Antonio.
Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the man led troopers on a chase after they tried to pull him over for a routine traffic stop in Atascosa County around 8 a.m. Wednesday. The man then drove into San Antonio, where the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and San Antonio Police Department joined the chase. The chase continued through mostly residential areas southwest of Joint Base - Lackland.
By 8:30 a.m., the chase moved toward Loop 410 and Ray Ellison Boulevard, where the suspect jumped out of the car. Authorities said he then tried to run into a wooded area along Perseus Sound near Covel Road but was captured by officers.
"He had several felony warrants that he had outstanding. There was a weapon located inside the vehicle, there was narcotics located inside the vehicle, and the vehicle was stolen as well," explained Lt. Jason Reyes of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Video from the scene showed the suspect lying on the ground as officers processed the scene. Paramedics treated the suspect at the scene, although it was unknown what type of injury he may have suffered.
