Suspect who shot 3-year-old child in drive-by still on the run
SAN ANTONIO - This week marks one month since a drive-by shooting took the life of a little boy on the Southwest Side.
Three-year-old Rene Blancas Junior’s killer is still on the run and the family is asking for the public’s help.
“He touched a lot of lives. From his vigil we can see how many people showed up,” said Rene Blancas Sr., the child's father.
Rene’s parents said their son loved baseball and dreamed about playing in the world series.
“We are just taking it day by day. There are times that we are weak. I think about him a lot. We think about him a lot,” said Blancas Sr.
Rene was in the back seat of his dad's car on Nov. 4th. They were driving on Briggs at New Laredo Highway when a bullet hit their son in the head from another car.
“It's sad to know an angry person with a gun decided to shoot without caring where the bullet was going,” explained Blancas Sr.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD,) the suspect was driving a 2006 gold or beige Honda Civic the night of the shooting.
It has been real tough for Rene’s parents but they are not losing hope for answers.
“The last thing we told each other was I love you and he loved me. I buckled him and that was the last thing,” said Melanie Santos, Rene’s mom.
“We just don't want whoever did this to be out in the streets. We want whoever did this to be held accountable, have justice held for our son,” added Blancas Sr.
