SAN ANTONIO - A Smithson Valley High School teacher and coach who was under investigation for allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a student has been arrested.

Russell Dewayne Hamilton was booked into the Comal County Jail on December 22 and released the same day.

Allegations surfaced in November that he had a relationship with a student. He was placed on leave on November 28.

The Texas Education Agency said at the time that Hamilton worked for the district since the 2014 school year. He worked an assistant coach for the high school football team.

The TEA website shows Hamilton is under formal investigation. We reached out to the Comal Independent School District to ask whether Hamilton remained employed with the district and we did not receive a response.

Hamilton is charged with improper relationship between educator and student.
