La Vernia student athletes facing sexual assault charges after hazing incident
UPDATE: The La Vernia Police Chief has confirmed several students were arrested on Thursday on allegations of hazing.
The alleged victims provided interviews and the chief said there was confirmed evidence that a crime had been committed. The suspects, described as student athletes, face charges of sexual assault.
The chief did not say how many students were arrested, but at least three were taken into custody while our cameras were there. The agency said it expects to make more arrests in the future. No other information was provided.

SAN ANTONIO - Three students were arrested at La Vernia High School on Thursday in connection with allegations involving the boys' athletics program.
The La Vernia Police Department was at the school, but would not comment on the nature of the case.
Parents at the school told Fox San Antonio/News 4 San Antonio the investigation involved allegations of sexual assault.
A statement released by the La Vernia ISD superintendent, Dr. Jose Moreno read:
Dear La Vernia Parents and Community,
A complaint was filed in reference to High School Boys’ Athletics. The District is aware of the complaint and is fully cooperating with the authorities as they conduct a thorough investigation. The District is under strict guidelines and is not able to comment on the complaint at this time. Rest assured that every precautionary measure has been taken to ensure that our students are supervised and safe.
Texas Rangers and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation.
