Traffic stop in Atascosa County leads to chase ending in Bexar County

The chase came to a stop near Prairie Road and Loop 1604 when the suspect bailed out and fled on foot. During the chase, deputies said he was seen throwing unknown items out of his vehicle.

Somerset police said a traffic stop in Atascosa County led to a chase that ended in Bexar County Tuesday night.

Atascosa County deputies pulled over a reckless driver sometime around 9 p.m., but he quickly fled into Bexar County. A Bexar County Sheriff's deputy came in contact with the driver at Loop 1604 and Somerset Road and was almost hit by the suspect's vehicle.

The chase came to a stop near Prairie Road and Loop 1604 when the suspect bailed out and fled on foot. During the chase, deputies said he was seen throwing unknown items out of his vehicle.

Investigators at the scene said the VIN numbers on the silver Dodge truck were taken off, possibly indicating that the truck could be stolen.

There is a DPS helicopter and a K-9 unit at the scene as investigators continue the search for the suspect. At this time, deputies could only describe the man as wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
