Woman killed in shootout with deputy in Real County
CAMP WOOD, Texas -- A woman was shot and killed in an deputy-involved shooting Tuesday.
The shooting happened Tuesday morning in Camp Wood, just north of Uvalde. The sheriff identified the woman who was shot as 30-year-old Shana Musquiz. He says deputies were called out to the Hill Country Motel after receiving reports that Musquiz was trying to take a young child from the child's parent.
According to the sheriff, a deputy showed up and told her to hand over the child. The sheriff said that’s when Musquiz grabbed a gun from her car and fired at the deputy. He said the deputy returned fire, shooting Musquiz.
Musquiz was taken to the hospital in Uvalde where she was pronounced dead.
