Young child's body found along Galveston beach
GALVESTON, Texas -- The Galveston Police Department has confirmed the body of a young child was found along the beach late Friday afternoon.
The department received a call around 5:30 p.m. Friday from an individual who said they had found a body on the beach near the 700 block of Seawall Boulevard. The caller told police they were walking along the beach and spotted something near the surf and went to check it out. The caller said the object appeared to be the body of a small child.
When officers with the police department and the Galveston Island Beach Patrol arrived, they located what appears to be the body of 3 to 5-year-old boy.
No one else was seen around the site where the body was found, and police said the identity of the child is not known.
Investigators are continuing to search through missing persons records to see if they can find a match. They are also working with other agencies, including the US Coast Guard, to see if those agencies have received any matching missing persons reports.
