Caught on Camera: Deputy uses infant CPR to save life of child
TAMPA, Fla. - A sheriff's deputy in Florida was hailed a hero for saving the life of a young boy who suddenly stopped breathing.
Deputy Steve Donaldson immediately jumped in to help when Shakira Nelson ran into the Tampa Tax Collector's office with her lifeless son, CJ.
“And then I thought, Oh my God, I’ve got to do CPR on this child and I hope I don’t break him.” Donaldson said. “You know I was afraid I was going to break him. Infant CPR is obviously a more delicate procedure than on an adult. “
The entire incident, which happened on November 4, was captured on surveillance cameras inside the office. Thankfully, when paramedics arrived, CJ was breathing again. He was taken to a hospital and later released.
Nelson got the chance to thank her hero on Friday when she met Deputy Donaldson.
“Really, I just like to say thank you. Because I really didn’t know that he had the training.” Nelson said. “Thank you. And he is saying thank you as well.”
