California mother charged with murder of baby daughter

UPDATE: Thursday, January 18, 2018 - Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward announced murder charges were filed against Angelica Castro.

20-year-old Castro was arrested following the death of her 6-month-old daughter on Monday.

Castor was charged with one count of murder and one count of assault on a child causing death.

If convicted, Castro faces a possible sentence of 25-years-to-life on each count.

The Porterville Police Department is investigating the death of a 6-month-old girl as a homicide.

It happened Monday around 9:00 p.m. in the 300 Block of South G Street in Porterville.

According to police, when the 6-month-old arrived at Sierra View Medical Center, she was not breathing.

When officers arrived at the hospital, the little girl was pronounced dead.

Police say the cause of death was immediately identified as suspicious because the child had major injuries.

Police searched the house and collected evidence. The parents of the little girl were then interviewed at the police department.

As a result of the investigation, the child's mother, 20-year-old Angelica Castro, was arrested for the death of her 5-month-old child.

Castro is currently booked without bail in the Tulare County Jail.
