Woman accused of killing new mom, kidnapping baby is in court
A woman accused of killing a new mom and kidnapping her infant daughter is in court Thursday.
Yesenia Sesmas, 34, is in a Wichita courtroom for her preliminary hearing.
A judge will determine whether she should be put on trial for first-degree murder.
Authorities say Sesmas gunned down 27-year-old Laura Abarca in the victim's Wichita home last November, then kidnapped her then six-day-old daughter.
Police later found Sesmas and the infant at a home in Dallas, Texas.
According to an affidavit, Sesmas had a miscarriage but then pretended that she was pregnant up until the shooting.
