For Slow Food South Texas Chapter President Susan Rigg, the tiny garden outside Lamar Elementary is more than just rosemary and lemongrass - it's a classroom.
The nonprofit teamed up with SAISD to provide gardens and educational opportunities to students, teaching them everything from how seasonality affects growing conditions to how to properly season a pumpkin soup.
