TNL FINAL: Wente's 2 TDs leads Clark to 49-0 win over McCollum

SBG San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Quarterback Eric Wente showed off his legs more than his arm on Thursday night.

The sophomore QB ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns and the Clark defense pitched a shutout in a 49-0 win over McCollum on Hallmark University Thursday Night Lights at Farris Stadium.

The Clark defense was stifling, as was evident in McCollum's offense, which was held for a loss on 6 of the team's first 7 plays to start the game.

The Cougars D held McCollum to just 76 yards of total offense, including minus-5 yards passing. Clark DL Clifford Geyer was stellar, as he blocked up punt and recovered a fumble in the game.

Clark got the majority of its yardage on the ground, piling up 315 yards rushing against McCollum

Clark faces Brandeis on Sept. 30, while McCollum travels to play San Marcos on Sept. 29.

TNL: MCCOLLUM VS. CLARK

TNL PREVIEW: McCollum vs. Clark

SAN ANTONIO - It's McCollum vs. Clark tonight on Hallmark University Thursday Night Lights presented by Jack in the Box.

It was a good ball game last year and no reason to think it won't be again this go around. Both teams are building towards league play.

Clark is coming off a win over previously unbeaten Lee, and the Cowboys defense did a good job holding down the explosive Somerset offense a week ago. Both teams are still growing and tinkering, but ready for action on the big stage.

Clark head coach Steve McGhee has seen growth every single week, but is hoping to put all three phases together in just two days.

It's been a rough start for McCollum with back-to-back-to-back losses against South San, Central Catholic and Somerset. They've been shut out twice this season, but when you talk to the players and the coach, they've got the attitude and work ethic that won't give up.

SCHOLAR ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Both of these teams are young in a lot of spots, but plenty of talent to go around, and it will all be on display tonight.

The Cowboys and Cougars kickoff at 7 p.m. from Farris Stadium and you can watch it on the CW 35.
