"Family," "giving back," and "community" are just a few words used to describe the San Antonio Spurs.

They're a model NBA franchise when it comes to giving back to the San Antonio community and Head Coach Gregg Popovich took front and center in this effort.

Popovich was on hand to give new shoes to every student enrolled at San Antonio's Gates Elementary on Wednesday through a donation to Shoes That Fit. Popovich, along with Dejounte Murray, The Coyote and Spurs Silver Dancers, gave over 200 students in the Gates Elementary School the shoes.

When asked about the Spurs' efforts to remain involved in the community, Popovch said, "There is no Spurs organization without community involvement. We're all a big family here."

Located in the Eastside Promise Neighborhood, over 95 percent of Gates Elementary students are economically disadvantaged and with Popovich on hand to deliver the shoes to the kids, he felt it was a small way to bring joy.

"Being so embedded in the community and the people loving the Spurs and the Spurs being in the community makes us a real special program," said Popovich.
