MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS 12) - Trapper Mike Kimmel of Martin County caught and was bit by a python that will possibly break state records for its length and size.

"I decided to challenge myself I guess, to battle it out with her, so I grabbed her by the tail and instantly she took me over and pulled me with her," said Kimmel.

The snake was caught earlier this week in the Everglades. It weighed 150 pounds and was 17 feet long.

Trapper Mike is still waiting for state officials to confirm the female snake breaks records.

"I'm working on setting that up with the state now. Most likely I'll meet with one of their representatives and then we'll measure it out together," said Kimmel.

The snake bit the trapper on the arm as he wrestled it.

"It's a deep puncture. I could instantly feel some nerve damage," said Kimmel.

He says he lost a lot of blood but was still able to capture the snake and euthanize it.

"Knowing I got to stop my bleeding, knowing I've got to control my breathing, and knowing I have to finish tiring her out so I can get her to the boat," said Kimmel.

Trapper Mike goes by Python Cowboy on Instagram and YouTube and shares behind the scenes videos and pictures on those profiles.
