SAN ANTONIO – Local doctors are now involved in talks to join a clinical trial for a brand-new antibody cocktail treatment for COVID-19.
The cocktail combines different antibodies that are given to patients through an IV. Researchers hope it could either treat symptoms or protect people from getting the virus.
Regeneron, a pharmaceutical company, just started clinical trials Wednesday at multiple sites around the country.
UT Health San Antonio and University Hospital are now working to join those trials very soon.
"I think that's the kind of spirit of San Antonio: that patients do want to help and do their part. Our staff has really wanted to do the same. And so we've really just had a huge outpouring of support for conducting these trials,” say Dr. Thomas Patterson from University Hospital and UT Health San Antonio’s Long School of Medicine.
He’s also overseeing a local clinical trial for Remdesivir, a drug that’s shown promise with helping patients recover faster.
