SAN ANTONIO - We're introducing you to the five people running for Bexar County Sheriff.

Four democrats are vying to go up against Republican incumbent Susan Pamerleau in November. One of those four is Andy Lopez.

Lopez started his career with the sheriff's office.

"I have 40 years of law enforcement experience," Lopez told us. "I know what the sheriff's department is all about. I know what the people in Bexar County need."

Lopez says he's worked on combatting everything from gangs to human trafficking. He says his goal is to make the sheriff's office a one-tier department.

"Presently, there are two tiers, detention and patrol," explained Lopez. "I want to make it a one tier department where everybody is a peace officer. That way, I can utilize men in different areas."

Right now, detention officers who do not have a peace officer's license cannot do a peace officer's job. By making it a one-tier sheriff's office, he'll be able to promote from within.
