SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. The program is designed to get families active, eating better and learning about health and fitness. Weekly fitness classes begin May 14 and continue until Aug. 11. Mary Ullmann Japhet is the Senior Vice President of San Antonio Sports. Japhet talked about the free weekly fitness classes and how they located throughout the city, but targeting those neighborhoods with the highest rates of diabetes and obesity. Dr. Esteban Lopez, is Texas Chief Medical Officer and Market President, Southwest Texas, of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. This is the fourth year BCBS has been the presenting sponsor. Health screenings are available and every three weeks, there is also a family-friendly Saturday Big Event. At the weekly fitness classes there's Zumba, Kit Fit classes, and health screenings. Prizes include $25,000 in cash and fitness prizes, including sports and movie tickets, $1,000 drawings every three weeks at family-friendly Saturday Big Events, and a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer for a $1,000 gift card.
