12-year-old boy accidentally shot by friend showing him gun
SAN ANTONIO —
Police are investigating a shooting on San Antonio’s Southwest side.
According to a family member of the victim, a 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot by his friend along Apple Valley Drive.
Monday evening, we spoke with a young girl that tried to help the victim.
“We are all scared,” said 13-year-old Kayla Ortega, who lives nearby. “It was really scary. We heard just a gunshot out of nowhere. We thought it was fireworks at first. My mom told me to stay inside. She went out, and you could just hear the screaming.”
A spokesperson from SAPD confirms that a juvenile was shot, and that a juvenile fired a gun.
According to police, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
“He was just crying and screaming that he couldn’t feel his legs,” said Ortega. “He was bawling his eyes out.”
Police believe that the shooting was an accident. Ortega says the young boy was shot in the leg.
“I think it was an accident,” said Ortega. “I’m pretty sure that kid was just as old as him.”
The victim’s family member we spoke to believes that the boy’s friend had been showing him a gun. Police on the scene couldn’t confirm that.
