Friends describe 4-year-old drowning victim: 'The little boy was full of energy'
SAN ANTONIO - Authorities identified a 4-year-old child that drowned in a neighbors pool Friday afternoon.
Markus Marsh, 4, was pronounced dead at University Hospital. Marsh's fifth birthday would have been Saturday.
"The little boy was full of energy. He had a lot of life to him. He loved trucks. We were at his 3rd birthday party and it was all everything wanting paw patrol and little cars," said Heather Gonzalez, a family friend of the victim.
Authorities were called to the 7400 block of Kentisbury at about 2:30 p.m. for reports of a drowning. Police said a relative of Marsh realized he was not in the backyard where he was supposed to be playing. The relative got in a car and tried looking for Marsh, when they flagged down an off-duty officer to help searching, police said.
"It appears that the little boy somehow was able to go up against the fence and climb over into the neighbors pool," said Jennifer Rodriguez, SAPD spokesperson.
Police said another relative noticed Marsh drowning in the neighbors pool. The officer immediately began life saving efforts for Marsh, but he wasn't able to survive.
"It's going to tear everybody up knowing that's what happened," said Gonzalez.
Police said the case is still under investigation, but they do not anticipate any criminal charges.
