The Austin Fire Department rescued an autistic man from a fire at a residence early on Saturday morning.

AFD responded to the incident at 1305 Braided Rope Drive at 4:43 a.m. and were able to extinguish the fire by 5:36 a.m.

The residents, a family of four, safely evacuated the house, though AFD assisted in the rescue of an adult autistic man who was separated from his mother and stayed inside. The fire was confined to one bedroom and he was not in danger other than smoke inhalation.

All four residents are currently being treated at the North Austin Hospital as a safety precaution. No life-threatening injuries were reported.

The cause of fire and estimated property damage are currently unknown and under investigation.
