SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is investigating the strange circumstances behind a shooting that left one man injured early Wednesday morning.

Deputies say they were called to a location along Mathis Road near I-37 for a report of a shooting shortly after 12 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators that the shooting victim left in a pickup truck before they arrived and so deputies went looking for him. Officers eventually spotted the injured man driving the truck and got him to pull over at a gas station near Loop 1604 and I-37.

The victim told deputies he had given a ride to another man and had just dropped him off at a nearby neighborhood when he heard gunshots. He was hit in the leg.

He did not give deputies any other information about what happened and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office did not provide any other details.
