'Disturbed' ceiling tile prompts Bexar County Jail to go on lockdown

SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Jail was placed on lockdown after authorities discovered a ceiling tile that "appeared to be disturbed."

The "disturbed" ceiling tile was discovered at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the booking area of the Adult Detention Center. Authorities placed the main jail and jail annex on lockdown until the population of the full facility was counted.

All inmates in the jail were accounted for, authorites said, and the lockdown was lifted just before 2:15 p.m. The procedures used during this attempted jail escape were carried out as a training opportunity.

Operations at the jail have returned to normal.
