SAN ANTONIO (SBG San Antonio) - Police are searching for a man who hid inside a closet and then jumped out and stabbed his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend just as the couple went to bed.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. Thursday at the Rosemont at University Park Apartments at Loop 410 and Moursund Boulevard in San Antonio.

Police said the girlfriend and new boyfriend went to bed and a few minutes later, the ex-boyfriend jumped out of the closet and stabbed the new boyfriend several times in the back with a large knife. The girlfriend pulled him off the victim.

Anthony Escobedo, 24, was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition with a collapsed lung.

The ex-boyfriend took off running. Police spent the night questioning the girlfriend who said she had no idea how her ex got into the apartment. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.

A next door neighbor says the girlfriend and her ex were always fighting and the new boyfriend has only been around for a month or so.

They have identified the suspect and hope to make an arrest soon.
