SAN ANTONIO - A man charged with murder said it was self-defense, now the victim's family is speaking out.
The family told us the suspect, David Medina and the victim, Bernardo Sandoval knew each other. They were described as friends by the family.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting, something the family desperately wants to know.
"We were going to celebrate his birthday May 1st, we never thought we'd be here crying cause he's gone," Bernardo Sandoval's mother Jacqueline said.
Sandoval a husband and father of four allegedly shot and killed by David Medina last month.
"Why, why, what was the reason," Jacqueline said.
Police said Medina told them he shot Sandoval in self-defense, investigators charged him with murder after viewing his own surveillance video.
"He came out of the house and shot him twice," Bernardo's sister Jessica Sandoval said.
Now, Sandoval's family is remembering Bernardo through ink and photographs.
As balloon's fly high to honor Bernardo, his family is eagerly awaiting the reason he was killed.
Eva Sanchez was also charged with tampering with evidence.
Bernardo's family says she was trying to destroy the surveillance video which allegedly show her boyfriend Medina killing Sandoval.
