Family of man found dead in a barrel still looking for answers one year later

Loved ones are remembering the life of a man who was found dead in a barrel one year ago today.

Although a suspect is in custody, the family is still searching for answers.

One year after his death, friends and family of 33-year old Abel Salazar Jr. say they are still coping.

Salazar was a father to five daughters and one son.

His 15-year old daughter Odyssey shared during a gathering at The Holy One church how faith and love have helped her over the last 365 days.

“I will always be a daddy's girl,” said Odyssey. “I think about you every day and try to honor you with everything that I say and do. "

Salazar's body was found inside a barrel at a home near Trumbo Road outside Loop 1604.

Bexar County deputies arrested 20-year old Derrick Blaze Rodriguez in connection with his death.

“To this day we have no details whatsoever,” said Terry Salazar, Abel’s mother. “And I think that as a mother that's something that I really want is answers."

The medical examiner says Salazar died from gunshot wounds, but it's unclear when he was killed.

“My son's life meant a lot,” said Terry. “He was loved by many. This today proves how much he was loved. that his memory will live on.”

Court records show Rodriguez was found competent to stand trial earlier this month.

The Salazar family says a trial is supposed to begin in the next few weeks.
