SAN ANTONIO - A major jury verdict of more than $10 million for the family of Gilbert Flores took place Thursday.

GRAPHIC WARNING: Deadly shooting video released

Authorities say Flores was a domestic violence suspect who was shot and killed by two Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies during an incident back in 2015.

After years of going through the legal process, his family says today they got justice.

A short time ago, attorney Thomas J. Henry joined alongside the Flores family for a press conference to talk about Thursday's verdict.

Cell-phone video from a neighbor captured the tense moments that led to the deadly confrontation in north Bexar County.

That's when, investigators say the 41-year-old was holding a knife while confronting deputies responding to a domestic violence call.

Attorneys for the Flores family argue the two deputies involved were not justified in using deadly force.

The family and their attorney say the jury sent a strong message with their verdict.

“Just the fact that they did confirm in regards to him being taken from us is what matters the most to me, my sister and I,” said family member, Marisela Flores.

Thomas J. Henry also had a few words, “Mr. Flores constitutional rights were lost that day. Law enforcement became the judge jury and executioner in a parking area in front of his house.”

Attorneys say the family has endured a 7-year long journey through the legal process to finally get justice.

They say that's what they got, adding they don't want anyone else to experience what they did.

Attorney also saying that cell-phone video captured by a neighbor played a critical role in this case.

“If it was not for that witness video-taping this incident, these two officers most likely would have never faced justice. No one would know that unreasonable, unnecessary deadly force was used when they killed him,” Henry added.

We have reached out to the county, but no word yet if there are any plans to appeal.
