One person killed, two injured in Northwest Side apartment fire
SAN ANTONIO - One person was killed and two others were injured Monday night in a large fire at a Northwest Side apartment complex.
Firefighters were called to the Ashler Oaks apartments (4100 Parkdale Drive) at about 10:15 p.m. for reports of a fire. San Antonio Fire Department Chief Charles Hood said firefighters broke through a window and found a woman inside the room. A "flash over" happened and the woman was killed in the fire, Hood said.
One person was taken to University Hospital after jumping from a window to escape the fire and another sustained minor cuts and bruises, Hood said. Eight adults and two children were displaced by the fire, Hood said, but there were no injuries to firefighters.
Hood said four units were destroyed, while adding that it's "pretty amazing" that the damage was limited to just four units.
At least 31 units are on scene to extinguish the fire and will be at the complex "quite awhile" to investigate. Hood said they do not know where the fire started, but there was heavy damage to the second and third floors.
A witness said she heard a man screaming for help as she scrambled to evacuate the complex.
