SAN ANTONIO - A message coming from the heart this Valentines Day.

The holiday of love spent inside a hospital after a woman's husband suffered a major heart attack.

"They call me the miracle man cause I guess I'm not supposed to be here, but I am," Alex Almendarez said.

It started off as shortness of breath and chest pain for Almendarez.

"We never knew he had heart problems," Brenda Almendarez said.

The former SAISD police officer had one test after another at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital.

Results showed Alex suffered a major heart attack which in turn caused his organs to shut down.

"My husband has always been a strong person and I never thought he would be in this situation," Brenda said.

Valentine's Day confined to this room, Alex's wife Brenda has a message from the heart for the heart.

"It's very important for everyone to go get checked," Brenda said. "Go get a physical."

Although doctors said he was on death's doorstep.

Now, he is making a remarkable recovery.
