Foster father's cousin now also facing ‘sexual assault of a child’ charges
Another man is facing charges in a case connected to abuse allegations against a foster father.
Juan Antonio Rivera is now charged with “Sexual Assault of a Child.” The 34-year-old is the cousin of 58-year-old Miguel Briseno. Briseno was charged with sexual assault in October of last year. His alleged victims are six girls he was fostering.
According to the arrest affidavit, Briseno allowed Rivera, who lived two houses down from him, to rape one of his foster children for years.
The alleged abuse began when the girl turned 13. The victim told investigators that Briseno threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
At the time of Briseno’s arrest, Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown told us deputies responded to his home in the outskirts of Devine more than 100 times since 2016.
“That would be for a problem with one of the girls,” explained Sheriff Brown. “He had runaways, rightfully so. They should've been running away, knowing what was going on now."
We've since learned that Briseno and his wife fostered 185 children or teens over an 11-year-period. Investigators believe more victims will come forward.
The investigation is still active, and it's unclear if his wife will face any charges.
