Construction workers trapped beneath collapsed rebar structure

SAN ANTONIO -- Four construction workers were injured in a construction accident on the West Side Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened around 2:37 p.m. Thursday near Loop 410 and Highway 90.

A spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department said four workers were working on a rebar support when some of the materials collapsed.

Two of the workers were pinned under some of the collapsed material. Once freed, they were both taken to University Hospital. One of them suffered "life-threatening" injuries.

Two other workers suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and released.

"The worker is not a TxDOT employee. Any questions about the individual(s) involved would need to go to Williams Brothers Construction. Our thoughts and prayers are with the workers and their families as we all collectively hope for a positive outcome. As is standard for workzone events like this we are awaiting guidance from OSHA to determine project impacts as an investigation takes place."
