Friends, family prepare to honor the life and legacy of Ruth Jones McClendon
SAN ANTONIO - Family and friends will gather on Wednesday to honor the life of a longtime East Side community leaders.
A rosary service will be held Wednesday night at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for former councilwoman and State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon. She passed away last week.
McClendon served on San Antonio's city council before moving on to the Texas legislature, representing the 120th District for two decades.
She was highly respected by both sides of the aisle and worked to bring millions of dollars worth of improvements and projects to San Antonio's East Side.
Current Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert credits McClendon with helping young people looking for a future in politics, including himself. He interned for McClendon in the late 1990s.
