Gunman shoots Autozone worker, robs store, then grabs bullet casings before running off
SAN ANTONIO —
A car parts store employee was critically injured when a gunman walked into an Autozone store and shot him without saying a word.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the shooter walked into the store on Marbach Road near Jay High School just after 10 p.m. on Monday and shot the employee in the shoulder. He reportedly said nothing before firing the gunshot.
He grabbed a second employee and forced him toward the back of the store to open a safe. After grabbing everything in the safe, the shooter walked back toward the front of the store and tried to shoot the injured worker a second time, but his gun jammed.
Investigators say he then grabbed the bullet casings from the floor and ran out the door. Police are scouring surveillance video in hopes of getting a good description of the thief.
The injured employee, later identified as 31-year-old Johnny Tschetter, was taken to University Hospital in critical condition. No other information was released.
