HOUSTON - A homeowner was surrounded by heavy flames coming from his house when he decided to jump out of a window to escape.
The Houston Fire Department arrived to the cross streets of Dawson Lane and Ashville Drive at around 1:30 a.m. and saw heavy flames coming from a house.
Officials said that crews were able to put the fire out rather quickly with no injuries reported. The homeowner says that he smelled smoke and narrowly jumped out of a window to escape. He was treated by EMS when they arrived.
"The homeowner said he wasn't sure what started it or how it happened, but he was able to get out by jumping out a window and we were able to put the fire out," said District Chief Brian Kimberly of the Houston Fire Department.
The fire department says that it looks like the fire may have started in the garage. The house is a total loss and the Houston Fire Department is investigating for any signs of arson.
