SAN ANTONIO - Authorities are investigating the cause of a massive 18-wheeler accident that prompted the shutdown of Interstate 10 westbound in East Bexar County Tuesday morning.
According to officers, three 18-wheelers collided in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the Bexar-Guadalupe County line shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday. One of the trailers caught fire and was destroyed. Another lost its load of sand on the highway.
As of 6 a.m., the westbound lanes remained closed and traffic was backed up by several miles.
A Texas Department of Transportation crew was tasked with cleaning up the debris before they could reopen the highway. It's expected the highway will be closed for much of Tuesday morning.
Two of the truck drivers were taken to a hospital for treatment. Details about their conditions were not released.
