LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio announces Master Builder Winner

It took about thirteen years, and two Brick Factors with disappointing outcomes but the third time was definitely the charm, as Kevin Hintz finally made his dreams come true and eagerly awaits for his first day. (SBG Photo)

After a fierce two-day competition this weekend, with LEGOLAND Discovery Center's Brick Factor, a winner was finally chosen to serve as the Master Model Builder for San Antonio's upcoming headquarters, located in The Shops at Rivercenter.

Michigan resident Kevin Hintz, 25, took home the gold -or, brick, really, and has become the recipient of LEGOLAND Discovery Center's exclusive position. The ideal candidate is not only an avid LEGO lover and builder, but someone whose amicable personality will suit them as a mentor for young LEGO builders. In other words, creativity and sincerity must be the watchword of the Master Model Builder. And Hintz exhibited all that and more; specifically, dedication.

"When I was twelve, for my birthday, I got a LEGO book and in the book, it talks about LEGO Master Builders," he said. "And at that point... I was like 'man, this is my dream job. This is what I want to do. So ever since then, I've been working towards it, practicing, and just continuing to build until I could get to this point."

As far as credentials go, Hintz comes from humble beginnings. Therefore, it doesn't come as a surprise as to why he is such a dedicated individual.

"I worked in my Grandpa's farm for a few years (when I was young) and that helped me learn the fundamentals of being responsible and holding a job and everything," he said. "And then I worked at Target for five years. And since then, I have worked at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Michigan for the past three years."

Hintz revealed how he has competed twice before in Brick Factor for a Master Model Builder position. The first was in 2016 in his hometown of Detroit and the other was in 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.

"Winning this competition means so much to finally have it and it's like a reward because I've tried for this [position] before and not gotten it. So, it's a really good, satisfying feeling," he said.

It took about 13 years and two Brick Factors with disappointing outcomes, but the third time was definitely the charm, as Kevin Hintz finally made his dreams come true and eagerly awaits for his first day.

"I'd like to thank my whole family, my girlfriend and everybody at work (back home in Michigan) and I hope everyone come visits me at LEGOLAND Discovery in San Antonio."
