Man dies after shot in head during argument, suspect arrested

SAN ANTONIO -- Police have arrested a suspect who they say shot and killed a man on the East Side.

Police were first called to Aransas and Polaris around 11:20 p.m. Friday, but then located the victim on the 300 block of Preston. According to police, 37-year-old Stephen Guenther got into an argument with the suspect, 36-year-old Syklab Gonzales.

A report states Gonzales pulled a gun and threatened both Guenther and a witness who was with Guenther. Investigators say Guenther lunged at Gonzales in an attempt to point the gun away from them and Gonzales fired at Guenther, striking him in the head. Guenther was taken by EMS to San Antonio Military Medical Center in very critical condition and later died of his injuries.

Several witnesses were taken to police headquarters to be interview.

Police say Gonzales fled the scene in a vehicle but was later located at his home. He was placed under arrested and is now facing Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charges. His bond has been set at $225,000.
