Man in his 60s struck, killed by police cruiser and second car identified
SAN ANTONIO - Authorities identified the man who was killed Monday night when he was hit by a police cruiser and a second car on one of San Antonio's busiest roads.
Claud Espinosa, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bexar County Medical Examiner. Police were responding to a robbery call shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday when the accident happened along San Pedro Avenue and El Monte.
Detectives said the officer was heading northbound on San Pedro, with lights and sirens on, when he struck Espinosa crossing the road. The impact of the crash knocked Espinosa into the southbound lanes, where he was hit by a second car.
The officer who hit the victim was described as distraught by investigators. He has been placed on administrative duty while the accident is investigated.
The driver of the second car also stopped at the scene. No other information was provided by police.
